It’s Not All Business

Hello Readers:

The Texas spring rains are watering the bluebonnets. It’s been a gloomy couple of days, but before we know it we’ll be “sweatin’ like a sinner in church” as Betty would say.

Today I’m taking a little trip just east of Austin to Bryan/College Station and will be spending some time with the Brazos Writers Group. They’ve been hosting a fantastic monthly meet-up since 1987.

Using my time as a lawyer for 20+ years coupled with my research on writing, I’ve put together a discussion covering everything from copyright issues to using brand name products in novels all the way to tips for enhancing tax deductions.

If you’ve ever wondered if someone could steal your manuscript, if you should ask permission to use a picture, or if it’s safe to say your character drank a Coke or a Lone Star Beer, those are topics I’ll be cussing and discussing tonight!

I’ve formalized all this information into a power point presentation I call “Legal Issues for Authors”.

Don’t worry, it won’t be all business though. Following the Q&A and signing a few copies of Dollar Signs, I’m off to party with my Brazos friends at Lupe Tortilla. They boast the best lime margaritas in the world, but true to mine and Merit’s taste, I’ll have to choose between tequila and a nice glass of wine.

Happy Reading,

Manning
