Ag Malone went into the District Clerk’s office and asked to research the divorce records. He quickly found Louellen Bell Pounder and George Pounder’s divorce decree.
Miss Katie was right. The date of the divorce was just over two years from the date on their marriage license. The decree of divorce showed no children of record and very little property to split. Louellen had not yet inherited the house on Elm, so no real property was listed. A few bucks in a bank account, clothing, and each had an older model car. Not much to show for a marriage. The occupations listed George as a drummer and Louellen as a back-up singer.
“A match made in heaven,” Ag said.
Ag obtained a copy of the decree of divorce and checked his list while the clerk prepared the documents. The office closed when the clerk let him out and locked the door behind him. He left town with a file full of paper that didn’t amount to much, except the fact that Louellen was not married to George Pounder when she birthed Davey.
“Who’s your Daddy?” Ag thought.
